The new novel from literary heavyweight Thomas Pynchon, whose “Vineland” served as inspiration for the new Paul Thomas Anderson film “One Battle After Another,” debuts at No. 7 on the original fiction bestsellers list this week.
The Washington Post says it’s “bonkers and brilliant fun.” The Telegraph calls it “a masterpiece.” And the Los Angeles Times has, well, this to say: “Dark as a vampire’s pocket, light-fingered as a jewel thief, ‘Shadow Ticket’ capers across the page with breezy, baggy-pants assurance — and then pauses on its way down the fire escape just long enough to crack your heart open.”
A bit further up, retired Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield‘s new thriller, “Final Orbit,” about China’s role in the space race of the 1970s, debuts at No. 4 (and No. 1 on the Canadian fiction list).
Over on the non-fiction list, it’s heavy metal heaven. “Last Rites,” the posthumous memoir by Ozzy Osbourne, debuts at No. 1, while “Iron Maiden: Infinite Dreams,” drops in at No. 8.
