The shortlist has been revealed for the design team to lead the overhaul of the Louvre Museum in Paris. The “Louvre – New Renaissance” project was announced in January, with the competition launched in June. More than one hundred teams applied for the commission.

The project will see the creation of new entrances to the Louvre on the eastern side of the palace, complementing the Pyramide entrance and creating new reception areas. Meanwhile, new spaces will be designed beneath the Cour Carrée and surrounding gardens, including a new museographic area dedicated to the Mona Lisa. Renovation and public realm works to the existing museum will also be addressed.

The five teams shortlisted for the competition in alphabetical order are: 

Amanda Levete Architects (AL_A), working with NC Nathalie Crinière for scenography and Carole Benaiteau for museography. The landscape component will be led by VDLA, and the urban planning component by Atelier SOIL.Architecture Studio, in collaboration with Diller Scofidio + Renfro. Scenography will be handled by Diller Scofidio + Renfro and Atelier Brückner, museography by LAMAYA, landscape by Diller Scofidio + Renfro and TER, and urban planning by Architecture Studio.Dubuisson Architecture, in collaboration with SANAA. Together they will oversee the scenography, museography, and urban planning components. They are joined by Dan Pearson Studio for the landscape component.Sou Fujimoto Ateliers Paris, in collaboration with Sou Fujimoto Architects. Scenography and museography will be handled by Ducks Scéno, while landscape and urban planning will be led by Vogt Paysage.STUDIOS Architecture, in collaboration with Selldorf Architects, who will also oversee scenography and museography. Scénarchie will also contribute to the scenography. The landscape and urban planning components will be managed by BASE.
