A teenager turned himself into police after allegedly running a red light and injuring a pedestrian in Toronto’s east end last month.

Police were called to the area of Pape and Lipton avenues, north of Danforth Avenue, on the evening of Sept. 23, for reports of a serious collision.

Toronto police say a 17-year-old boy was driving northbound on Pape Avenue as a 24-year-old man was crossing.

Authorities say the vehicle “disobeyed a red traffic signal” and struck the pedstrian. He was sent to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The driver had left the scene, police said in September, but later returned.

On Thursday, police say the teen turned himself in. He has been charged with dangerous operation of conveyance causing bodily harm and fail to stop at the scene of accident.

His identity is protected under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Police are asking anyone with additional information to contact them or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
