A nurse practitioner will be available at the Richards Landing-Matthews Site from Saturday morning to Monday morning

Update:

The North Shore Health Network is extending an emergency department closure in Richards Landing.

The ER at the Matthews Site shut down today at 8 a.m. 

It was originally expected to reopen 24 hours later, however NSHN now says it will stay closed until 8 a.m. on Monday.

Anyone requiring immediate medical attention should still call 9-1-1. 

Ambulances will be re-routed to one of the closest emergency departments to the Richards Landing – Matthews Site which are Sault Area Hospital, and the Thessalon Site which is due to reopen at 8 a.m. Saturday.

In addition, as part of a new initiative, a nurse practitioner will be available at the Richards Landing-Matthews Site to provide timely care for urgent health concerns from 9 a.m. Saturday, October 18 to 8 a.m. Monday, October 20.

The North Shore Health Network (NSHN) is informing the community of an upcoming Emergency Department closure due to physician shortages:


THESSALON SITE:

From 8 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 17 reopening at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 18.


RICHARDS LANDING – MATTHEWS SITE:

From 8 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 17 reopening at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 18.

The North Shore Health Network continues to investigate all possible options to provide safe access to care and to avoid closure. Efforts to find coverage are ongoing and should a physician be secured NSHN will reverse the closure and update the community as soon as possible.
