York Regional Police say a man is dead and one suspect is in custody following a late-night assault in East Gwillimbury Ont.
Officers were called to a home in the area of Queensville Sideroad and Yonge Street at around 11:25 p.m. Friday, for reports of an “assault in progress.”
Police say an adult male was found at the scene with critical injuries and transported to hospital, where he later died. There is no word on the name or age of the victim.
Investigators say the incident appears to be isolated and that no additional suspects are being sought at this time.
Speaking to CP24 at around 3 a.m., Duty Inspector Richard Gaudet said the Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation.

“Anybody who hasn’t spoken to York Regional Police yet is asked to contact us, and if members of the community wish to remain anonymous, we ask them to contact Crime Stoppers to provide that information,” Gaudet said.
“At this time, I cannot provide any more information, as the investigation is in its early point,” he added. “We don’t believe that there is a threat to public safety. We believe that we have arrested the lone suspect that is involved in this incident.”
Police say a large presence will remain in the area as the investigation continues.
