As part of BPPS, the UNDP Climate Hub spearheads the organization’s commitment to the “Climate Promise,” supporting countries in designing and implementing ambitious climate pledges under the Paris Agreement. The Climate Hub integrates climate change mitigation and adaptation into national development and budgetary frameworks, managing a USD 4 billion global portfolio across 142 countries. Its work spans climate policy, adaptation, mitigation, forests, and sustainable finance, with an emphasis on innovation, youth, gender, and climate security.
Position Overview
UNDP is seeking a Visual Communications and Graphic Design Analyst to enhance the Climate Hub’s visual communications and strengthen the visibility of the UNDP Climate Promise. The role involves developing creative, high-quality visual assets to effectively communicate UNDP’s climate work to a broad global audience—ranging from policymakers and partners to the general public.
The Analyst will work closely with the Climate Hub Communications Lead, the integrated communications team, and UNDP’s broader Climate Strategies and Policy team.
Key Responsibilities
1. Visual Communications and Branding
Serve as focal point for all visual communications within the Climate Hub, ensuring compliance with UNDP’s branding and visual identity standards.
Develop and maintain cohesive visual and branding identities for Climate Hub and Climate Promise communication materials.
Provide creative direction for advocacy campaigns and digital storytelling initiatives.
2. Content Creation and Production
Design and layout reports, publications, and infographics for both print and digital platforms.
Produce visually engaging materials such as animated graphics, GIFs, presentations, and short social media videos.
Support digital advocacy campaigns by creating innovative multimedia content that enhances audience engagement.
Offer guidance to external graphic designers, ensuring alignment with UNDP design standards.
3. Strategic Communications Support
Collaborate with the communications team to improve visual messaging and strengthen UNDP’s digital presence.
Contribute to internal knowledge management and content organization, including visual repositories and templates.
Participate in regular team meetings and contribute to the Climate Hub’s integrated communications strategy.
4. Innovation and Design Development
Explore and utilize AI-assisted design tools (e.g., Adobe Firefly, Midjourney) for rapid campaign prototyping.
Continuously innovate visual storytelling approaches to highlight UNDP’s climate action results and global impact.
Qualifications and Experience
Education
Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, International Development, Environmental Studies, or related field;
A first-level university degree (Bachelor’s) with two additional years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a Master’s degree.
Experience
Minimum of two years (with a Master’s) or four years (with a Bachelor’s) of professional experience in communications, media, or advocacy.
Proven expertise in graphic design, video editing, and multimedia content production using Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, After Effects, Final Cut Pro).
Demonstrated ability to conceptualize and produce design materials from inception to publication, including social media-optimized content.
Experience with digital storytelling, publication layout, and visual strategy implementation.
Familiarity with the UN system, particularly UNDP communications and editorial standards, is an asset.
Knowledge of sustainable development, environmental management, and climate change issues is desirable.
Languages
Fluency in English required.
Professional knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) is highly desirable.
