The Dogs have 6 wins, 1 loss for 12 points…tied for 1st place. Manitoba has 4 wins, 3 losses for 8 points…good for 3rd place.

The Western Hockey League returns to action tomorrow with 2 games. The Saskatoon Blades are idle until Friday when they open their six-game U-S Division road trip at the Everett Silvertips. CJWW’s broadcast starts at 7:45 p.m. with play-by-play at 8:05 p.m. The Bridge City Bunch have 9 wins, 3 losses, 0 extra time losses for 18 points…tied for 1st place in the Eastern Conference. Everett has 9 wins, 0 losses, 1 extra time loss for 19 points…good for 1st place in the Western Conference. The Blue and Gold’s next home game isn’t until Friday, November 7th when they entertain the Moose Jaw Warriors. Game time is 7 p.m. at SaskTel Centre.

The Pan-Continental Curling Championships start today and run through Sunday in Virginia, Minnesota. Both the women’s and men’s divisions feature eight national representatives, playing round-robin plus playoff formats, vying for spots for their countries into the respective World Championships next spring. Canada is represented by the Rachel Homan foursome from Ottawa in the women’s competition while Brad Jacobs’ Calgary quartet is on the men’s side.

Canada’s women are already guaranteed a spot in the Worlds next March in Calgary. The Homan squad plays their first two games tomorrow.

Canada’s men still need to lock down a spot into the Worlds next spring in Ogden, Utah. On the Jacobs team’s schedule today…

Canada vs China—6 p.m.

The Canadian Curling Pre-Trials start today and run through Sunday in Wolfville, Nova Scotia. There are eight teams in both the women’s and men’s divisions, playing a round-robin plus playoffs format, with each gender division winner advancing to the Canadian Curling Trials next month in Halifax. The winners of that event will represent Canada at the Winter Olympics in Italy in February. Among the women’s teams taking part are foursomes skipped by Ashley Thevenot and Nancy Martin – both from Martensville. There are no Saskatchewan teams in the men’s draw. There are draws today at 6 and 11 a.m. plus 4 p.m. Among the 11 a.m. games…
