Off-season signing Ty Jerome has been diagnosed with a high-grade right calf strain and will be re-evaluated in four weeks, the team announced Monday.
Canadian frontcourt players Zach Edey and Brandon Clarke are also both slated to miss time at the start of the season for Memphis with ankle and knee injuries, respectively.
Grizzlies depth guard Scotty Pippen Jr. will also be re-evaluated in 12 weeks after undergoing a procedure for a left big toe injury.
Coming off a breakout season, Jerome agreed to a three-year, $28 million deal with the Grizzlies, including a third-year player option, on June 30.
The 27-year-old averaged 12.5 points on 51.6 per cent shooting from the floor and 43.9 per cent from three, all career highs.
Jerome provided offensive punch in his 19.9 minutes per game off the bench for the Eastern Conference No. 1 seed Cleveland Cavaliers. He was a finalist for the Sixth Man of the Year Award, losing to Boston Celtics guard Payton Pritchard.
The six-foot-five combo guard was also among the NBA’s most proficient pick-and-roll operators and stands to run the Grizzlies’ second-unit offence behind star guard Ja Morant when he returns.
