R-Truth has opened up about why WWE decided to end the Ron Killings gimmick.

R-Truth reverted to his NWA TNA character with a serious attitude when he returned to WWE at Money in the Bank 2025. Referring to himself by his real name, “Ron Killings,” and feuded with John Cena. However, after Cena turned babyface before SummerSlam, WWE ended the Ron Killings gimmick and reverted Truth back to his goofy persona.

During an appearance on SHAK Wrestling, Truth was asked where he hoped the Ron Killings character would’ve gone. Truth claimed that it went exactly where it was supposed to go and that the gimmick was a rebellion that reflected the sentiments of the fans who wanted him back after he announced his release in June 2025.

“Where it went to. It went where it was supposed to go to,” R-Truth said. “The Ron Killings (character) was created, he created R-Truth. You see what I’m saying? So it’s like those hundreds of millions of fans that spoke, that uproar, that they wanted R-Truth back.

“Ron Killings was the rebellion, the one that spoke up for R-Truth. Ron has been Ron the Truth Killings, Ron Killings has been around for years. People grew up, like, generations. They never came together and locked it, like, they did that for R-Truth. You feel me?

John Cena’s face turn marked the end of the Ron Killings’ WWE character

He basically stated that the Ron Killings character made its statement and that there was no need for the gimmick after John Cena’s face turn, and that R-Truth had to come back.

“So I wanted Ron Killings to go where he was supposed to go. He made the statement. He had the eyes on him and just like with storylines, when John Cena came back, R-Truth came back. Ron Killings just led the cavalry. That’s all that was.” [H/T: Fightful]
