As Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson‘s Jeffrey Epstein scandal continues to unfold, royal experts are looking at the effects on their daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie.

It’s unlikely that the controversy will simmer down anytime soon as the palace deals with the consequences of the former couple’s association with the late pedophile. Now, one royal author thinks that Beatrice and Eugenie have a drastic decision to make in the wake of their parents’ serious missteps.

To be clear, Beatrice and Eugenie have done nothing wrong, but Ingrid Seward, author of Sarah: The Life of A Duchess, told the Daily Mail that it might be easier if they “rescind their princess titles.”

“Giving up their titles would give them freedom from their parents, stop them from being [painted] with the same brush, and be a clear sign that they want to make their own way in the world,” Seward explained. “I think people would hugely respect them for it and, I think, ultimately, they would be happier.”

It would be a radical move for Beatrice and Eugenie, who were “brought up to be entitled, to believe that blue blood matters,” per a royal source. “And they expected to live life in that gilded cage forever. Gifts from the rich and powerful were taken for granted, as was the offer of free holidays. Money just seemed to be plentiful even when Andrew was only earning a £17k ($22,600) salary in the Navy.”

The Telegraph noted that King Charles wants to make sure his nieces are “protected” from their father’s mess, but the women are “utterly mortified” by the situation.

“Eugenie has a harder edge to her, but they really are a credit to the Royal family. They haven’t done anything to deserve what has happened. It’s all of their parents’ making,” the royal insider told the outlet.

If Prince William gets involved, Beatrice and Eugenie’s finances could be subject to an “ethics check” to “avoid a future scandal” at the palace. The Prince of Wales is the one who reportedly orchestrated Andrew’s ouster, and he is taking a hard look at royal titles for when it is his time on the throne.

For now, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie are keeping a low profile amid the high-profile scandal — and we don’t blame them one bit.
