The New York Yankees had another good regular season in 2025, but they didn’t accomplish their ultimate goal of winning the World Series and now need to go back to the drawing board.

New York made a handful of solid decisions last offseason after losing Juan Soto. The Yankees acquired Cody Bellinger, signed Paul Goldschmidt, to name two. The Yankees also acquired Devin Williams from the Milwaukee Brewers. He was good down the stretch, but struggled early on.

The Yankees had an active year, but now have a handful of decisions to make. Bellinger can opt out of his deal in New York. Goldschmidt is heading to free agency, Williams is heading to free agency, Trent Grisham is going to the open market, and plenty of others. New York is going to have to prioritize roster spots and one guy who could be impacted by this is outfielder Austin Slater, per Greg Joyce of the New York Post.

“Trading for him made sense, given his ability to hit left-handed pitching, but he struggled to do just that,” Joyce wrote. “Yankees could use someone like him (a right-handed hitting outfielder), but it probably won’t be Slater.”

Slater came over in a trade with the Chicago White Sox and slashed .120/.120/.120 with two RBIs in 14 games with New York. He is a nine-year MLB veteran and a career .248 hitter, but the Yankees have a lot of decisions to make and Slater doesn’t seem like a fit for 2026.
