Cam Brown, an ECHL Hall of Famer, has died at the age of 56.

The Saskatoon native was killed in a motorcyle accident over the weekend.

Undrafted out of the Western Hockey League’s Brandon Wheat Kings, Brown appeared in a single game for the Vancouver Canucks on March 3, 1990, an 8-0 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks in which Brown had seven minutes in penalties, including a five-minute major for a fight with enforcer Mike Peluso.

Brown would go on to a 16-year pro career with stints in the American Hockey League, International Hockey League and the Czech Extraliga. But a majority of Brown’s career was spent in the ECHL with the Columbus Chill, Erie Panthers, Baton Rouge Kingfish and Gwinnett Gladiators.

Brown appeared in 789 ECHL games, second-most all-time, across 13 seasons, scoring 206 goals and adding 293 assists. His 2,245 penalty minutes are second-most in league history.

In 2002-2003, Brown served as head coach of the Kingfish following his retirement. He would come out of retirement the following season and spend the three final seasons of his career with the Gladiators.

Brown was inducted to the ECHL Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2010 alongside Vezina Trophy-winning goaltender Olaf Kolzig.
