Two people have been charged after allegedly lying that their vehicle was carjacked as part of a “complex fraud scheme.”

Ontario Provincial Police said they were notified of a carjacking near Mississauga and Old School roads on the evening of Sept. 18.

The complainant allegedly told officers that after being involved in a collision, two suspects, one armed with a gun, approached and stole their vehicle.

OPP launched an investigation and found the complainant fabricated the carjacking.

Officers then arrested two people, 38-year-old Raji Sharma and 40-year-old Meeraj Tandon, and charged them with public mischief and fraud over $5,000.
