Nyquist, 36, joined the Jets on a one-year contract for $3.25 million in the off-season. The native of Halmstad, Sweden has five assists in 11 games played on the young season.
Nyquist has played more than 60 games in a season just once over the past four campaigns – when he played 81 with the Nashville Predators in 2023-24 and scored 23 goals with 75 points.
A veteran of 14 NHL seasons, Nyquist has made stops with the Detroit Red Wings, San Jose Sharks, Columbus Blue Jackets, Minnesota Wild, Predators and the Jets.
The news comes at an inopportune time for the Jets, who have already been missing key players early in the year due to injuries – forward Cole Perfetti, who scored 50 points a year ago, is nearing a return from an ankle injury, while defenceman Dylan Samberg, who finished third in scoring by a defenceman on the Jets a year ago, is still out indefinitely with a broken wrist.
The Jets enter their contest against the Blackhawks at 7-3-0, third place in the Central Division behind the Utah Mammoth and Colorado Avalanche.
