While the Toronto Blue Jays are hoping to score big in the World Series this weekend, Jays fans will also have an opportunity to score big, with a possible $10 million up for grabs in the Jays Care Foundation’s 50/50 Jackpot.
Jays Care Foundation, the charitable arm of the Toronto Blue Jays, says its World Series 50/50 Jackpot is currently sitting at around $9 million and is expected to reach a take-home prize of more than $10 million by the time of the draw on Sunday.
The jackpot is already the largest 50/50 prize in baseball history, according to Jays Care.
Tickets have been sold both at the Rogers Centre and online, with around 80 per cent of sales coming through the website.
In addition to receiving millions of dollars, the jackpot winner will also get the news in a phone call via Blue Jays legend Joe Carter.
Jays Care Foundation also ran 50/50 draws for the ALDS and ALCS series, but the current draw for the World Series has eclipsed the others.
The take-home prize for the ALCS draw came in at more than $3.5 million, while the ALDS prize came in at more than $1.2 million.
In addition to the cash jackpot, there are also other prizes to be won, such as memorabilia autographed by Blue Jays players, all-inclusive vacations and Jays merchandise.
All proceeds from the 50/50 jackpot will support the foundation’s Baseball for Development programs in communities across Ontario and Nova Scotia. Those programs include initiatives to help kids living with physical or cognitive disabilities play baseball; baseball programs for kids from First Nations communities and programs to build baseball diamonds.
Anyone can buy a ticket online, as long as they are in Ontario or Nova Scotia when the ticket is purchased.
Tickets can be purchased until 10 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 2. Carter will call the winner to notify them the next day.
