All athletes competing at OKTAGON 79 successfully weighed in earlier today ahead of an action-packed event set for Saturday, November 1, at the Winning Group Arena in Brno, Czech Republic. However, the weigh-ins weren’t without controversy, as welterweight champion Ion Surdu failed to make weight and was subsequently stripped of his title. This development leaves only his challenger, Andrej Kalašnik, with the opportunity to walk away with championship gold tomorrow night.
The event will stream live on OKTAGON.TV worldwide, promising an unforgettable evening for MMA fans.
Main Event: Kalašnik’s Shot at Glory
In the main event, the now former titleholder Ion Surdu (16-7) faces Andrej Kalašnik (13-5), who has the chance to achieve his lifelong dream of capturing an OKTAGON belt in front of his hometown crowd. This fight is more than a championship bout—it’s a defining moment for Kalašnik’s career.
Elsewhere on the main card, striking specialist Vladimír Lengál (8-5) meets Serbian powerhouse Ognjen Dimić (9-4-1, 1NC) in the lightweight co-main event that promises fireworks.
Stacked Undercard with Local and International Talent
OKTAGON Challenge veteran Jakub Dohnal (13-6) will battle rising contender Tomáš Mudroch (7-1) in another lightweight clash, while Brno’s own Radek Roušal (5-2) throws down with dangerous finisher Corey Fry (6-3) in a heated featherweight showdown.
Fan-favorite Daniel Ligocki (5-1) is set to face promotional newcomer Pedro Oliveira (9-4-1) in a catchweight bout at 86kg (190lbs).
Additionally, former UAE Warriors champion Samuel Bark (12-2) collides with Georgian striker Mate Sanikidze (11-4) in a pivotal featherweight bout, and Swedish sensation Liam Pitts (2-0) makes his much-anticipated OKTAGON debut against Stephan Guidea (2-2) at 63kg.
