The guy who started Game 7 of the World Series for the Los Angeles Dodgers passed Babe Ruth on a hitting leaderboard in the same game.

Sounds very Ruthian of Shohei Ohtani, huh?

He certainly is one of one, more of a two-way player at the same time than even Ruth was in his day.

And while the starting pitching outing didn’t go how Ohtani would’ve liked, he did have another great night at the plate.

Ohtani led off the game with a rocket, then worked a walk later on.

With that, he had reached base 19 times in the World Series.

Those two times on base passed Ruth, whose best-ever showing in the Fall Classic was reaching base 17 times.

He also passed the two players to ever reach base exactly 18 times in the World Series, Mickey Mantle and the slightly less immortal Marty Barrett.

At 19 times on base, Ohtani matched David Ortiz in the 2013 World Series for second all time.

The only player to ever reach more? Barry Bonds.

In the 2002 World Series, Bonds got on base 21 times.

Even Ohtani can’t match Bonds at the plate (although those four intentional walks in the 18-inning marathon that was Game 3 certainly felt like something that Bonds would’ve done, even though he didn’t).

But given that Ohtani is also a superstar pitcher, he’s not doing too poorly for himself.

This won’t be his last time shining bright on a big stage, but he certainly seized the moment in the box all series long.
