A current WWE star has denied rumors surrounding their departure from AEW earlier this year prior to returning to WWE.
Former United States Champion Rusev made his return to WWE on the Raw after WrestleMania 41 back in April, his first appearance on WWE television in five years.
Rusev was released from WWE back in 2020, before he shortly after joined AEW as Miro, where he found some success as his Redeemer character.
However, prior to his departure from AEW earlier this year, Miro had gone an entire year without competing in a match for the company, with rumors online emerging that Miro had been benched by the company due to his refusal to lose matches in the company.
Speaking to CBS Sports, Rusev opened up on his AEW departure, shooting down rumors of him refusing to lose in the company.
He said:
“In the past five years, I have had 20 or 30 matches. Back in the day, I had 30 matches in 30 days. The dead time sticks out the most. We only have this body and age for so long. We can’t do this job forever, so we must take advantage of it while we’re young.
“I sat on the sidelines for so long, unable to do what I love, which is performing for people in professional wrestling.”
Rusev is set to challenge for the Intercontinental Championship at Saturday Night’s Main Event tonight.
