Canada’s Victoria Mboko captured her second WTA title of the year on Sunday, defeating Spain’s Cristina Bucsa in a three-set match to capture the Hong Kong Open.

Mboko opened the championship match with a 7-5 first set victory before Bucsa eked out a 7-6 (11) second set win. Mboko bounced back with a 6-2 win in the third and deciding set as the match lasted nearly three hours.

The 19-year-old also defeated fellow Canadian Leylah Fernandez in the semifinals in three sets (2-6, 6-3, 6-2) en route to the title.

Mboko burst onto the WTA circuit this season. She entered 2025 outside the top 300 and went on a strong run at the National Bank Open in Montreal, defeating the likes of Coco Gauff, Elena Rybakina and Naomi Osaka to win her first title on tour.

She currently sits at No. 21 in the WTA world rankings, one ahead of Fernandez, and is projected to rise to No. 18 after Sunday’s win.
