Gabe Kapler has a new title.
The former player and manager will now become general manager of the Miami Marlins, the team announced on Monday.
The move is a promotion for Kapler, who was previously assistant general manager, and secures his spot as No. 2 on the organizational depth chart behind president Peter Bendix.
Kapler, 50, spent four years managing the San Francisco Giants before being fired late in the 2023 season. He posted a 295-248 record, but his only year guiding the team to a winning record was 2021, when San Francisco won a franchise-record 107 games and the NL West title.
He also managed the Philadelphia Phillies from 2018-19, going 161-163.
Kapler joined the Marlins front office in December 2023.
The Hollywood, Calif., native enjoyed a 12-year playing career, playing 1,104 games for the Detroit Tigers, Texas Rangers, Colorado Rockies, Boston Red Sox, Milwaukee Brewers and Tampa Bay Rays.
The Marlins are coming off a third-place finish in the NL East at 79-83. They missed the playoffs by four games.
