The Toronto Blue Jays’ Jays Care foundation, like other official team charities around Major League Baseball, raises money via in-game 50-50 raffles. The higher the attendance, the higher the take-home total — for the charity and for the lucky fan who gets to split the pot.

As Game 7 of the World Series on Saturday dragged on, the amount of the 50-50 jackpot prize rose higher than any such raffle in history.

The winner of the raffle was revealed by the foundation to be “Aric” of Oshawa, Ontario. His record winnings: a little more than $25 million.

Congratulations to the biggest 50/50 jackpot winner in baseball history, Aric from Oshawa! 👏

Thank you, @BlueJays fans for raising a record-setting $25,010,057 this World Series. We truly appreciate your incredible support all season long! 💙 pic.twitter.com/xdwd1k3nvs

For perspective, that’s a tad less than what the Blue Jays’ highest-paid player, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., made over the entire 2025 season ($28.5 million).

Actually, it’s a bit more. Guerrero’s salary is taxed. Since the 50-50 jackpot winnings are credited as a donation to a registered charity, Aric gets to keep all of his winnings tax-free.

This is not being covered enough.

A Canadian resident named Aric, who lives 60 miles northwest of Toronto, won the Blue Jays 50/50, which was aggregated over the 4 WS games.

The Los Angeles Dodgers might have won the World Series. But one Blue Jays fan won the jackpot. According to the Toronto Sun, retired Blue Jays legend Joe Carter called the winning fan to deliver the news personally.

Unless he’s able to keep his identity a total secret, it’s not the only call Aric will receive this week.
