Walker Kessler’s season is already over.
Amazon’s Chris Haynes reports the Utah Jazz big man will undergo surgery on his left shoulder and miss the remainder of the season.
Kessler, 24, had been dealing with shoulder bursitis during the preseason. He appeared in the team’s first five games of the season, last playing in a 118-96 loss to the Phoenix Suns on Friday. After the game, Kessler returned to Salt Lake City instead of flying with the team for a game with the Charlotte Hornets.
A native of Atlanta, Kessler was in his fourth season out of Auburn.
In 201 career games, the 2022 22nd overall pick has averaged 9.5 points on .681 shooting, 10.8 boards and 1.8 blocks over 25.3 minutes a night.
The Jazz (3-4) return to action on Wednesday night against the Detroit Pistons (5-2).
