What music best becomes a mayor? If you’re newly elected mayor of New York City Zohran Mamdani, the answer is Slut Pop. In the days before the election, Mamdani hit the clubs. A video has been circulating online of Mamdani requesting Kim Petras at Elsewhere, only to flash his now iconic “welp” smile when the DJ says they don’t have any. Not even “demons” for spooky season?
Petras retweeted the video, captioning it simply “Zohran MAMDANI” with a purple heart emoji. She’s just one of the dozens of celebs who endorsed Mamdani in his run-up to Gracie Mansion. Lupita Nyong’o shared a story of when Mamdani was a hyper-competent AD on social media, Romy Mars vlogged her mom Sofia Coppola voting for Mamdani (we love a nepo baby alliance), and who could forget Dr. Sturgeon from Young Sheldon Wallace Shawn? Besides Petras, Mamdani has endorsed Joseline Hernandez, Abida Parveen and Naseebo Lal, and of course, “One Pound Fish (AutoTune Version) (One-Hour Version).” Banger after banger after banger.
