Tiffany Seeger and David Gray were heading inside from walking their dogs when they saw a gray animal following them, and immediately assumed they were in danger.
“When I saw a dog that I was not familiar with, my brain went, ‘Coyote,’” Seeger told The Dodo.

There are a lot of coyotes in Greenville, South Carolina, where the couple lives, and for whatever reason, that’s where Seeger’s mind immediately went. They rushed to get their dogs inside and keep the “coyote” at bay, and as the commotion died down, they soon realized that the animal in question was in fact not a coyote at all.
“I went from being really scared for my dogs’ safety to being like, ‘Oh my God, this thing is so cute. How can we help her?’” Seeger said.

Once the couple realized the coyote was actually a stray dog who needed help, they immediately took her to the vet. The pup, later named Sprite, had no microchip or tags, but she was so sweet that Seeger was convinced someone had to be looking for her. She posted about the found dog all over social media, but no one stepped up to claim her.

They got Sprite all cleaned up and settled into their home, then began introducing her to their pups, Totoro and Mei, who were eager to meet this new arrival. That night, the entire family slept together in a big pillow fort on the floor, and they soon realized it was the first night of the rest of their lives.

“We’re a big pillow cuddle puddle, just having the best time,” Seeger said. “And we got up in the morning, and it was like she was just a part of the family.”
The couple got Sprite vaccinated and cared for through a local rescue, Dog Squad, and are currently fostering her while they decide if they’re going to adopt her or not. From the moment she arrived in their lives, it was meant to be, and the couple is so glad that Sprite turned out to be a sweet pup looking for a home and not a coyote.

“Her number one personality trait is just loving and gentle,” Seeger said. “I love her, and other people love her, so it’s time to find her a forever home. And she may just be here forever.”
