A local tech blogger says doctors are now able to use AI as a tool to help detect breast cancer on tests that would otherwise be missed.
Kevin Andrews says AI is using “deep learning” to study thousands of mammograms to learn what breast cancer could look like, even when it is hard to stop.
He says a recent study found that AI was able to detect one out of every three breast cancers that doctors had missed during regular screenings.
He calls this a “huge deal” because the earlier cancer is found, the better the chance of survival. Andrews argues it is not about replacing doctors, but rather giving them a second set of eyes to make sure things don’t slip through the cracks.
