WASHINGTON – The number one-seeded Georgetown women’s soccer team fell to the number two-seeded Xavier Musketeers in the BIG EAST Championships final 2-0 on Sunday at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Boyds, Maryland. The nationally-ranked No. 10 Hoyas allowed a pair of goals in the contest from Xavier and couldn’t find a way to respond. With the loss, GU falls to 15-3-2 on the season while the Musketeers advance to 15-3-2.

Head Coach Dave Nolan
“Obviously, we’re all very disappointed that we fell a little bit short today. I’ve got to give Xavier a lot of credit. They came out very energized in the first period. Xavier put us under pressure right out of the gate, which we didn’t deal with too well. They got a bit of a slice of good fortune with the penalty kick, and then that kind of set the tone. And then in the second half, I thought we came out and played really well, put them under a lot of pressure, and had some really good moments. Their keeper made some really, really top class saves and then they got the second goal late, when we’re pushing numbers forward to try and chase the game a little bit. It’s disappointing not to come out with a trophy, not to come out with a championship, but I couldn’t be any prouder than the girls’ efforts, because in the second half in particular, I thought we were the better team, and we had them pinned in for long parts of the game. But the game turns on moments. The first moment was the PK, the second moment was the second goal, which had a hint of offside. I’d like to look at the video for that, but credit to them. They made their moments, and we didn’t make ours. So on to the NCAA tournament, and now hopefully see if we can make some special memories of our own.
