NFL midseason superlatives: The biggest busts so far
USA TODAY Sports’ Joe Rivera and Chris Bumbaca dish out which players, coaches, and teams have been the biggest letdowns so far.
The air is cold, the night is long and the tundra is frozen.
For the Green Bay Packers, it’s a signal that the second half of the season is here. For the Philadelphia Eagles, it’s a reminder that they need to lock in.
There are still a few months before the playoffs officially begin, but both sides can make a big statement on Monday night at Lambeau Field. It’s a rematch of their wild-card weekend matchup from last season, but these two evenly matched squads have a new-look to them since their last meeting.
While Green Bay still boasts the likes of Jordan Love and Josh Jacobs on offense, they will have a familiar face trying to reacquaint himself with Jalen Hurts all night long – Micah Parsons. His trade took place over the offseason, but the Eagles are set to debut a few new pieces of their own on defense.
The defending Super Bowl champions didn’t land the big fish, but they did land a fish – swinging a deal with the Dolphins for Jaelan Phillips. He joins a defense that also added Michael Carter II from the Jets.
Both teams remain atop their respective divisions, but Green Bay has some more challengers to stave off in the NFC North – adding even more importance to this battle between two contenders.
