Seven athletes represented Team USA at the 2025 UCI BMX Freestyle World Championships in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where riders battled through three intense days of competition.
The U.S. roster featured: Hannah Roberts (Buchanan, Mich.; Hyper BMX), Nick Bruce (Youngstown, Ohio; Huffy Bicycles), Marcus Christopher (Canton, Ohio; DK Bicycles), Justin Dowell (Virginia Beach, Va.; Hyper BMX), BryceTryon (Lodi, Calif.; Free Agent Bikes), Jacob Thiem (Kennard, Neb.; Huffy Bikes), and Nate McCallister (Pasadena, Md.; Pedal Pushers BMX).
The men’s competition began with 56 riders in the qualifying round, with only the top 24 advancing to the semifinals and 12 moving on to the finals. Team USA came out strong, placing five riders into the semifinals: Christopher, Dowell, Bruce,Tryon, and Thiem. Christopher and Dowell stood out early, both qualifying inside the top five and maintaining their form to secure spots in the finals.
Six-time World Champion Roberts entered the women’s event ready for a tough battle against the dominant Chinese contingent. She delivered two smooth, consistent runs in qualifying, earning a place in the finals in fifth position.
Finals day saw everything on the line for Roberts, Christopher, and Dowell. Roberts dropped into the women’s final as part of the last heat. Her first run ended in an early crash, something that affected many riders on the technical course, but she regrouped for her second run, attacking the park with creativity and flow. Unfortunately, another crash in the final moments ended her World Championship run, though she once again demonstrated why she remains one of the most respected riders in the sport.
In the men’s final, the competition was fierce, with several riders scoring into the 90s. Christopher threw down a world-class run, earning a massive 94.02 to take the lead. France’s Anthony Jeanjean, however, delivered a flawless second run to edge out Christopher with a 94.44, while Logan Martin (AUS) secured bronze with a 91.68. Dowell backed up his teammate with two smooth, highly technical runs, both scoring in the 90s, finishing sixth overall with a 90.44.
It was a standout showing for Team USA, with Christopher earning his first-ever World Championship medal and the squad continuing to demonstrate its world-class depth as they close out the 2025 season.
