With the 112th Grey Cup in Winnipeg on Sunday, there will be multiple activities where current and former CFL players and chaplains will be the hands and feet of Jesus.Â
Lorne Korol is a missionary with Athletes in Action and serves as the chaplain for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, says he is excited to go to different locations leading up to the big game.Â
“We’re really blessed. We have some of our current CFL players coming to town and some CFL chaplains, and we’re going to be spreading the love of Jesus across the city to various locations and organizations that we can lend a hand and provide some hope through some changed life stories and testimonies.”
Ahead of the Sunday game, Korol is looking forward to doing prison ministry. “We’ve got a unique partnership with Prison Fellowship Canada and we’re going to be going to Stony Mountain Institution, the Manitoba Youth Center, the Women’s Correctional Facility, along with the Headingley Correctional Facility. That partnership has really grown over the years with Athletes in Action.
“I find that the people there don’t have a lot of hope. When our men can come in and share some hope through Jesus, it always feels like there’s a lot of appreciation for that.”
Along with prison ministry, Korol says they will be partnering with Lighthouse Mission, Siloam Mission, Union Gospel Mission, the Salvation Army, Adult and Teen Challenge in Winnipeg and Steinbach, Youth for Christ and Inner City Youth Alive.
“We’re really blessed that players and the chaplains lend their time. It’s not only a time of growth for the people that we’re speaking to, it’s a time of growth for the players and the chaplains. The way the Lord works and just allows us all to grow.”
While thousands of football fans will be attending the Grey Cup on Nov. 16, Korol is asking for CHVN listeners to pray. “We’ve got about 14 different events that we’re going to throughout the weekend.”
On Nov. 15, Korol is excited for the Grey Cup Breakfast hosted by Athletes in Action at The Metropolitan Entertainment Centre in Winnipeg.
“I’m excited as well for the youth events. It’s always such a blessing to go in and serve at the homeless shelters. I’m really excited to see God working throughout the week.”
