Alan Brazil is less than impressed with the profile of the Celtic manager frontrunners and has urged the Hoops to hatch a plan to appoint Steve Clarke next summer.

Columbus Crew boss Wilfried Nancy is the bookies’ favourite, with one even suspending betting on the Frenchman. It’s thought he has admirers within Parkhead and is high on the club’s shortlist.

Norwegian Kjetil Knutsen has caught the eye of clubs across Europe after sustained success with Bodo/Glimt on a fraction of most’s budget. He’s been linked with big jobs before and even turned down Ajax, but is approaching the end of his current contract and likely to depart.

However, Celtic fan and TalkSPORT host Brazil has been left nonplussed at the names in the frame, claiming he knows next to nothing about the pair.

“TalkSPORT understands Columbus Crew boss Wilfried Nancy – no, I don’t know this guy, do you Ally?” He asked co-host Ally McCoist.

“He’s emerged as the leading contender to become Celtic’s new manager.

“The Scottish champions are also considering Bodo/Glimt’s Kjetil Knutsen – so who are these people?

“I don’t know – is he another Ange? Could history be about to repeat itself?”

Brazil was then pulled up for his previous comments about Ange Postecoglou around the time the Australian was appointed.

A clip played Brazil from 2021 saying: “Celtic have applied for exemption with Uefa for Yokohama Marinos boss – what is it, Postecooglou? – to manage in Europe.

“He does not hold the required licence – this has got to be a wind-up. Oh, he’d be a great manager. Where do they find these guys from?”

But Brazil said: “I can hold my hands up its not a problem and maybe Nancy can do it as well.

“I don’t know who the other two are.”

Instead, Brazil wants Martin O’Neill to remain in the hotseat until the end of the season.

And then for Celtic to go and get Steve Clarke.

The Scotland boss’ contract is up either after the World Cup if Scotland make it, or before if they crash out in the playoffs.

Wins over Greece and Denmark in the upcoming final two qualifiers would see the Scots back at a World Cup Finals for the first time in 28 years.

Either way, his next stop should be Celtic Park as far as Brazil is concerned.

He added: There’s one for you, Celtic. Let Martin keep it until the end of the season, then after the big tournament, Stevie Clarke, Celtic.”

McCoist concurred: “That wouldn’t be daft. That wouldn’t be daft.”
