Nikki Bella has opened up about the negative fan reception following her heel turn on WWE RAW.
The former Divas Champion accompanied Women’s World Champion Stephanie Vaquer for her title defense against Raquel Rodriguez this past Monday on RAW. Vaquer was attacked by Roxanne Perez after picking up the win over Rodriguez.
Nikki entered the ring to help Vaquer fend off The Judgment Day. However, after celebrating Vaquer’s victory, Bella showed her true colors by hitting the champion with her own title belt — turning heel in the process.
Nikki Bella addresses fan reception to her heel turn on WWE RAW
Nikki Bella’s heel turn was met with a mixed response on RAW, as some fans in the crowd taunted her with “John Cena left you” chants. She addressed the reaction on the latest episode of The Nikki & Brie Show. Although she didn’t specify what chant she was referencing, Nikki called the hateful rhetoric “so gross.”
“The hate’s so gross,” Nikki said. “Like, even some of the chants I got last night… Honestly, I think they got picked up more on TV, or maybe I was just too in my moment to even notice. But it’s nice to see people with credibility speaking up, because I think at the end of the day, they all know how much I love this business and how much passion I have for wrestling. They know the work I put in.
“You know, it’s not like I come on here and always say, ‘When I had two days free, when I didn’t have my son, I flew to Orlando just to get in the ring for five hours and then flew straight back.’ I don’t talk about that stuff all the time — but the people who know, know. I truly love this business, and I want to give it my all.”
