Canada was reduced to 10 men just six minutes into Thursday’s friendly against Ecuador when Ali Ahmed was shown a straight red card for what as deemed a dangerous challenge.

Ahmed caught Ecuador’s Alan Franco with a high boot and was immediately sent off by referee Fernando Hernández.

The 25-year-old was making his 23rd appearance for the Canadian Men’s National team.

Canada is playing the first of two international friendlies they have schedule during FIFA’s November window.

They will face Venezuela on Tuesday at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida as they continue their preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which they will co-host along with Mexico and the United States..

Canada enters the contest as the 28th ranked team in FIFA’s men’s world ranking.
