The Toronto Blue Jays know they have to go all-in this offseason after coming up just short in the World Series. They were one game away, and the team is looking to get back to the fall classic next season and come out on top regardless of who wins the National League pennant.
One area the team needs to address, like every contender, is the bullpen. The Blue Jays relievers struggled at times, including closer Jeff Hoffman, who struggled in Game 7. Now, Hoffman has reportedly said he isn’t set on the idea of being the closer as he wants the organization to do what is best to win. This opens the door for Toronto to add a high-quality reliever to close out games, and one insider is hearing Raisel Iglesias could be its choice.

“According to sources, the Toronto Blue Jays have emerged as a strong suitor for Cuban reliever Raisel Iglesias,” reporter Francys Romero wrote on X. “Toronto is actively pursuing the veteran right-hander as they look to reinforce the back end of their bullpen.
Last season for the Atlanta Braves, Iglesias appeared in 70 games while producing a 3.21 ERA and adding 29 saves Over his last five seasons, Iglesias has recorded 25-plus saves in four of the last years with 2022 being the lone exception. The Braves knew when Iglesias entered the game that it was going to be extremely difficult for the opponent to score, and the Blue Jays are looking to have him have the same effect on their opponents.
The 35-year-old reliever is in the second tier of the reliever market this winter. With Edwin Diaz and Robert Suarez in their own group at the very top, Iglesias slots in right behind them along with Devin Williams, Pete Fairbanks and Ryan Helsley. Spotrac is showing Iglesias has an estimated market value of $17.6 million over two years, an average of $8.8 million per year.
For a team like the Blue Jays, paying under $10 million for a strong closer is a bargain that the team shouldn’t hesitate to pursue. The sooner Toronto can lock him down, if it believes he is the guy to get the ball in the ninth inning, the better as it would allow the organization to then pivot to other areas and continue to be aggressive.
