Imran Khan ends 10-year hiatus with a deeply personal new romantic comedy
Imran Khan is officially preparing for one of Bollywood’s most anticipated return tales, creating a surge of nostalgia and enthusiasm among fans who have not seen him on screen for almost ten years. His return now brings an unexpected twist, a creative reunion that caught many off guard.
Imran Khan, who left Bollywood almost 10 years ago, is finally returning, and his upcoming project has already generated buzz among fans. Following years of speculation, the actor has confirmed that his upcoming film marks a reunion with Danish Aslam, director of Break Ke Baad (2010). There were speculations that the pair could be developing a follow-up to the beloved romantic comedy featuring Deepika Padukone. Though Imran has avoided labeling it a sequel, he acknowledged that the new movie holds the emotional and creative continuity that the Break Ke Baad team would instinctively explore 15 years later.
In an interview with Hindustan Times, he mentioned, “The movie is just like what the team of Break Ke Baad would be doing 15 years later in life. It’s a natural progression. Danish and I now have collective life experience. He’s been married, I’ve been through a divorce. It’s just the film we should make 15 years later. This is very much a personal project that came from the creative urge of wanting to tell a story and working with dear friends. The shoot is complete, and it’s in post-production. We are looking at releasing it once the streaming platform decides on the date.”
Imran and Danish, who worked together on the 2010 film that delved into youthful romance, aspiration, and devotion, now offer a richer, more experienced viewpoint on narrative craft.
A different significant change is in the lineup. While Break Ke Baad had Deepika Padukone as the star, the new film showcases Bhumi Pednekar in the main role, alongside Gurfateh Pirzada. Imran disclosed that the selection process was unanimous and natural.
“It was a co-creative decision; we all agreed on her and what she would bring to the film, we were pretty upfront about it. She brought a good vibe to the set, and it was the same with Gurfateh (Pirzada). In fact, this is the happiest set I’ve ever been on,” he said.
Imran Khan was last spotted in theatres in Katti Batti (2015) alongside Kangana Ranaut. After a lengthy absence and a time of personal turbulence, marked by his 2019 divorce from Avantika Malik, the actor kept a low profile.
