A disturbing wildlife crime has prompted an investigation by Ontario conservation officers after a bull moose was found shot and abandoned east of Hearst.

Do you have information about a bull moose that was illegally shot and left to waste near Mitchell Chutes Road, east of Hearst?

A forestry company made a grim discovery on October 27 — a dead bull moose, apparently shot illegally, lying abandoned in Roche Township.

Conservation officers with the Ministry of Natural Resources are asking for the public’s help in identifying those responsible for killing and abandoning a bull moose in a forestry cut block off the Mitchell Chutes Road.

On October 27, a local forestry company reported finding the bull moose in a cut block at the end of P-6 Road, near a strip road and a wood pile. Investigators believe the animal was shot between October 24 and 26.

“This is a serious offence, and the ministry is committed to holding those responsible accountable,” says a news release.

If you have any information that could assist with the investigation, please contact the ministry’s TIPS line toll-free at 1-877-847-7667, or reach out to your local ministry office. You can also report anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
