Week 11 was a particularly rough one for quarterbacks, with multiple injury scares Sunday. Some teams turned their QB losses into wins — the Steelers, for example, smacked the Bengals despite losing Aaron Rodgers to a hand injury early, while Bryce Young came out of the locker room after an ankle injury to lead the Panthers to a comeback overtime win over the Falcons, and Jordan Love returned to lead the Packers over the Giants.
While it wasn’t the biggest quarterback injury, Cleveland Browns passer Dillon Gabriel’s exit from Week 11’s game is the one that could have a lasting impression. Gabriel remains in the NFL’s concussion protocol Wednesday, opening the door for fellow rookie Shedeur Sanders to get his first NFL start.

Sanders got his first taste of the NFL in Week 11 after Gabriel was ruled out. That didn’t go well, though, as the Ravens rallied to beat the Browns in Gabriel’s absence.
Sanders will hope to bounce back against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 12.
The Atlanta Falcons find themselves in the opposite spot in Week 12. Second-year quarterback Michael Penix Jr. was ruled out for the rest of the season due to an ACL injury Wednesday. Penix was previously placed on Injured Reserve, a signal that the injury would cause him to miss some time.
With Penix out, the Falcons don’t have another promising youngster to lean on. Instead, it will be long-time NFL veteran Kirk Cousins who will step in the rest of the way.

Elsewhere around the league, the Eagles beat the Lions on Sunday night, but franchise tackle Lane Johnson reportedly suffered a Lisfranc injury and could be set for a spell on injured reserve.
In addition to the quarterbacks, Titans receiver Calvin Ridley’s season is over due to a broken fibula, with Ridley getting carted off during Sunday’s loss to the Texans. Packers running back Josh Jacobs also left Sunday’s win over the Giants early with a knee injury, though reports came Monday he won’t need surgery and has a chance to play in Week 12.
And in some non-injury news, Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase has been suspended one game by the NFL for spitting on Steelers safety Jalen Ramsey, who was ejected from Sunday’s game for throwing a punch at Chase. Chase declined to speak with reporters during open locker room on Monday.

New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn officially named veteran Tyrod Taylor the team’s starting quarterback for Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens. The switch was reported earlier in the week.
Glenn also told reporters that Justin Fields, who started nine of the Jets’ first 10 games this season, will serve as the backup.
The Jets signed Fields to a two-year, $40 million deal in the offseason. But they went winless in their first six games with him quarterbacking the team, and first seven games overall. Although he had some good moments, including in Week 8 when he led the Jets to a road win over the Cincinnati Bengals, his inconsistencies as a passer continued to hold him back.
Now Glenn has turned to Taylor, who has started for six NFL teams in his career. He got the nod in Week 3 when Fields was sidelined with a concussion.

Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders is finally a starting quarterback in the NFL. With Sanders’ first NFL start on the horizon, the rookie said he was pumped to get first-team reps in practice for the first time this season.
In previous weeks, Sanders has watched as Joe Flacco and Dillon Gabriel have taken snaps with the starters. Sanders believes the first-team reps will really help him out when he takes the field Sunday, he told reporters Wednesday.
“I’m truly excited for that,” Sanders said. “Knowing that I have a piece of [the] offense, and a say so in how things fit my eye, placing the players exactly where they need to be, seeing how the come in and out of routes, seeing the structure of the o-linemen, seeing their sets, just having a feeling.
I’m more of a feel type of person. That’s how I learn. That’s how I do everything … I gotta be out there and feel it. I gotta move around. It’s like so many details that it takes for me to feel my best and play my best. I’m doing everything in my power and the team is doing everything to help me get prepared.”
Sanders struggled in his first NFL appearance, going 4-for-16 and throwing an interception in a loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Sanders entered that game despite rarely seeing time with the team’s starters. His inexperience showed.
But with a full week to prepare, Sanders is hoping things will be better in Week 12 against the Las Vegas Raiders.
In anticipation of the start, Sanders spoke highly of Raiders coach Pete Carroll and the team’s defense. Sanders added he would “do what I can to prepare mentally, physically, emotionally, to make sure I’m my best self.”

Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. and running back Emari Demercado have been ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Harrison will miss his second straight game after undergoing appendix surgery. He has 34 catches for 525 yards and four touchdowns this season.
Despite Harrison being out last week, quarterback Jacoby Brissett attempted 57 passes and 47 completions, setting an NFL record. Tight end Trey McBride and wide receivers Michael Wilson and Greg Dortch are expected to be the primary targets again.
Demercado suffered a high ankle sprain against the 49ers and has totaled 241 yards on 31 carries this season. With both James Conner and Demercado sidelined, the Cardinals are thin at running back.
The team did, however, open the practice window for Trey Benson, who has been out since Week Four with a knee injury, according to Cardinals.com reporter Darren Urban. Zonovan “Bam” Knight and Michael Carter are expected to fill the void.
The Cardinals are 3-7 and last in the NFC West.

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase’s one-game suspension has been upheld for spitting on defensive back Jalen Ramsey during last weekend’s 34–12 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Officials did not see Chase’s actions at the time and instead ejected Ramsey for throwing a punch. Shortly after the game, Chase denied spitting on Ramsey.
After hearing Chase’s appeal, Jordy Nelson, who was jointly appointed by the NFL and the NFL Players Association, upheld the decision on Monday.
The suspension will cost Chase $448,333, and he will also forfeit a $58,823 per-game active bonus.
Chase will be a significant loss to the Bengals’ offense. He leads the NFL with 79 receptions and has 861 yards and five touchdowns.
He will miss Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots, who are on an eight-game winning streak. The Bengals are 3–7 this season.

The moment many NFL fans have been waiting for all season is finally happening in Week 12. Cleveland Browns rookie Shedeur Sanders will make his first NFL start with Dillon Gabriel in concussion protocol.
Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski announced the move Wednesday.
Sanders made an extended appearance in Week 11’s game against the Baltimore Ravens after Gabriel went down with his injury. Sanders struggled in the contest, completing just 4-of-16 passes with an interception and a fumble.
He’ll look to improve on that performance when he takes on the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 12.

Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott has ruled out tight end Dalton Kincaid and wide receivers Curtis Samuel and Mecole Hardman Jr. for their Thursday Night Football game against the Houston Texans.
This is the second straight game Kincaid has missed due to a hamstring injury. He has 29 catches for 448 yards and four touchdowns this season. Dawson Knox and Jackson Hawes are expected to fill the void.
Samuel is dealing with elbow and neck injuries, while Hardman is out with a calf injury. Samuel has seven catches for 81 yards and a touchdown this season. Hardman brought a spark to special teams as a returner in his first game with the team.
Khalil Shakir, Josh Palmer, Elijah Moore, Tyrell Shavers, and Gabe Davis are the only other active receivers. Keon Coleman was scratched from the lineup last week for disciplinary reasons, and McDermott did not say whether he will return to the lineup this week.
The Bills are 7–3 this season.

The NFL reinstated veteran Odell Beckham Jr. after the wide receiver served a six-game suspension for violating the league’s performance-enhancing drug policy last season while playing with the Miami Dolphins. Beckham accepted the six-game suspension in October despite his claims of not knowing that he’d taken any banned substance.
His reinstatement now grants Beckham the opportunity to sign with any team as a free agent. Last season, Beckham appeared in nine games with the Dolphins, recording nine receptions for 55 yards. In 2023, Beckham played in 14 games with the Baltimore Ravens and hauled in 35 catches for 565 yards and 3 touchdowns. Over the past few years, injuries have derailed what started as a promising career in New York with the Giants in 2014.

C.J. Stroud will miss at least one more game.
The Houston Texans quarterback remains in concussion protocol and will not play in Thursday’s game against the Buffalo Bills. Backup Davis Mills will continue to start at quarterback. Head coach DeMeco Ryans announced the update to reporters Tuesday afternoon.
Stroud hasn’t played since sustaining a concussion in Week 9 against the Denver Broncos. He’ll miss a third consecutive game Thursday night.
The Texans have won their last two games with Mills at quarterback against the Jaguars and Titans to improve to 5-5 and remain in the AFC playoff hunt. It’s not clear at this point when Stroud will be able to return.

Johnson suffered a Lisfranc injury on Sunday and expect the right tackle to miss multiple weeks. According to Jeff McLane, it could be until next week before the Eagles learn exactly how long Johnson will be out.
The five-time NFL All-Pro was injured during the first quarter of the Eagles’ 16-9 win over the Detroit Lions. After being evaluated in the medical tent, Johnson exited the field and did not return to the game.
