Alexander Zverev has never won the Davis Cup with Team Germany. His latest attempt at the 2025 finals will start against Team Argentina. It could be one of the closest and most exciting ties played in Bologna. The matches between Spain and the Czech Republic on the same day are predicted in a separate article. But who will advance?
Davis Cup Quarterfinal Predictions
Jan-Lennard Struff vs Tomas Martin Etcheverry
Head-to-head: Struff 1-0 Etcheverry
Struff has endured a challenging season and dropped to No. 100 last week. The German found some form by winning a Challenger Tour event in Lyon last week. Etcheverry’s game most suits clay, and he is more vulnerable on the indoor courts in Bologna. However, Struff’s poor results for much of 2025 raise doubts about his ability to back up a good week. Etcheverry’s more consistent style is narrowly favored in what could be a tight battle.
Prediction: Etcheverry in 3
Kevin Krawietz/Tim Putz vs. Andrés Molteni/Horacio Zeballos
Head-to-head: First meeting
Team Germany has the advantage of a doubles pair who are used to playing together. Krawietz and Putz qualified for the ATP Finals as a pair and won the 2024 iteration of that tournament. Zeballos also competed at this year’s ATP Finals, but that was alongside Marcel Granollers. Molteni has a decent doubles record, making this a challenge for Krawietz and Putz. However, their experience of playing together for over two years makes them the most likely winners if the tie goes to a decider.
Prediction: Krawietz/Putz in 3
Alexander Zverev vs Francisco Cerundolo
Head-to-head: Cerundolo 3-1 Zverev
The overall head-to-head raises concerns for Zverev, but all those losses were on clay. Their most recent meeting ended with Cerundolo retiring with an injury. Zverev’s best level on an indoor hard court is much better than the Argentine’s. Cerundolo hurt Zverev on clay by attacking his forehand in slow conditions. The indoor conditions make that more challenging, and Zverev’s superior serve is also an enhanced weapon in that environment.
Prediction: Zverev in 2
