Wilfrid Laurier University receiver Ethan Jordan has won the Hec Crighton Trophy as the top player in Canadian university football.
The fifth-year standout recorded his second consecutive thousand-yard regular season in 2025, catching 68 passes for 1,066 yards and 10 touchdowns for the Golden Hawks. In addition to leading the nation in receiving for a second year in a row, the five-foot-11, 175-pound speedster set a new all-time record for most career catches in Ontario University Athletics history with 239, while sitting second in both receiving yardage (3,450) and touchdowns (30).
The native of Chatham, Ont., is just the eighth receiver to ever win the Hec Crighton Trophy, joining Laval’s Kevin Mital (2022), Western’s Andy Fantuz (2005), Calgary’s Don Blair (1995), Acadia’s Bob Stracina (1976), Alberta’s Brian Fryer (1975), Alberta’s Mel Smith (1971), and Toronto’s Mike Eben (1967).
Laurier quarterback Taylor Elgersma won the trophy in 2024, making this the second straight season that a Golden Hawk has won the prestigious honour. Jordan beat out Saskatchewan receiver Daniel Wieb, Laval quarterback Arnaud Desjardins, and Bishop’s quarterback Justin Quirion.
Jordan was selected 51st overall in the sixth round of the 2025 CFL Draft by the Ottawa Redblacks and began the year on the team’s practice roster before returning to school for his final season of eligibility. At the CFL Combine in March, he recorded a 4.44-second forty-yard dash, finishing second at the event.
Laurier was upset in the Yates Cup by the Queen’s Gaels. Jordan was unable to play in that game due to injury.
The Saskatchewan Huskies and the Montreal Carabins will meet in the Vanier Cup at Mosaic Stadium in Regina on Saturday, November 22. Kickoff is slated for 2:15 p.m. EST.
