Next season, the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series will have five Ram trucks running full-time through Kaulig Racing. There are three full-time drivers confirmed and a fourth truck which will serve as the “Free Agent” truck for 2026. The fifth truck remains unknown at this point.

Kaulig Ram Trucks is putting the No. 25 on the track with a different driver each week of the season. They will have some kind of points system to determine who has the best performance of the season in the truck. But, is it even going to work? That’s what Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports wants to know.

“As the new manufacturer announced the launch of its free-agent program for one of the five truck rides, it demonstrated that Ram isn’t interested in doing everything on the traditional path,” Pockrass recently wrote. “It hopes to generate buzz each race with potentially a different driver in the No. 25 truck. Will it work?”

Of course, Pockrass was able to answer that question. At least, he was able to give a broad-picture kind of answer. If the trucks are competitive, the Free Agent truck is going to be a huge success. Imagine a short track driver comes in for a one-off and gets a big win at Martinsville or something? That’s what Ram and Kaulig want from this NASCAR experiment. Will they get it? I’m not so sure.

Ram re-enters NASCAR with bold strategy

With five trucks next season, I think the Ram NASCAR Truck Series strategy of doing everything is a good one. Justin Haley, Brenden Queen, and Daniel Dye are a fantastic trio, and they should anchor this organization week to week in the series. It’s a new beginning for everyone involved.

The Free Agent truck is an interesting concept. Unless drivers get more than one chance to compete in the truck, I’m not sure the sample size will be large enough to really show us what they are made of. Someone might get lucky, but it will be very difficult to just plug and play drivers in and out all season long.

As for the fifth truck, there have been rumors. It might be split between two different drivers. We could see it used as an Owners’ Championship truck where they put a few very competitive drivers in the truck and see what happens. Could we see Corey LaJoie get a shot with them? You’d think he’d at least be considered. Who do you want to see in these Ram Trucks next NASCAR season?
