Western University offensive tackle Erik Andersen has won the J.P. Metras Trophy as the top lineman in Canadian university football.

Andersen anchored a Mustangs offensive line at left tackle that produced the second-most offensive yards per game with 503.5 and the most points per game with 45.1. Western also rushed for 376 more yards than any other team in the country through eight games, while allowing their running backs an average of 8.6 yards per carry.

Western was eventually upset by Guelph in the opening round of the OUA playoffs. Andersen finished his U Sports career having started 49 games, earning three first-team All-Canadian selections.

The London, Ont. native was selected 13th overall in the second round during the 2025 CFL Draft by the Saskatchewan Roughriders. He left the team mid-way through training camp in order to return to school.

Andersen is the third Mustang to win the J.P. Metras Trophy, joining Pierre Vercheval (1987) and Deionte Knight (2021). He beat out Saskatchewan defensive lineman Charlie Parks, Montreal offensive lineman Alassane Diouf, and Saint Mary’s offensive lineman Cailob Allaby for the award.

The Saskatchewan Huskies and Montreal Carabins meet in the Vanier Cup at Mosaic Stadium in Regina on Saturday, November 22. Kickoff is slated for 2 p.m. EST on CBC.
