3DownNation

Harvard Media is proud to announce the acquisition of 3DownNation, Canada’s premier source for Canadian football news, insight, and analysis.

Founded in 2015, 3DownNation.com is the country’s leading independent voice about the CFL, U Sports, and Canadian football at every level. Known for its unmatched depth and insider perspective, 3DownNation is recognized nationally for going beyond the headlines — providing fans with the kind of analysis, context, and conversation they won’t find anywhere else.

The publication’s team, led by veteran football insider Justin Dunk, has earned a reputation for credibility and unique access. Dunk, John Hodge, and J.C. Abbott are regularly featured on respected sports outlets across Canada, including radio, television, and podcasts. Now a trusted national brand, 3DownNation began as passion project.

With an annual Canadian audience of about three million users, 3DownNation is a destination for CFL fans every year who crave authentic, informed coverage of the CFL. An example of this is a story from June 2025 outlining the CFL’s highest-paid players at each position for the 2025 season, which garnered over 268,000 sessions and counting. 3DownNation’s annual highest-paid player series has been a fixture since 2021, giving fans access to financial details that aren’t available anywhere else.

“Growing organically from nothing — the publication has never once spent money on advertising — 3DownNation has grown to reach millions of people each year because of the tireless work and unwavering dedication of its staff, becoming a respected industry leader in news, insight, and analysis,” said Justin Dunk, founder and editor-in-chief of 3DownNation. “The publication is the only place to read daily, independent coverage about Canadian football. Three downs. No days off.”

Based in Winnipeg, Man., Hodge has been with 3DownNation since its inception, rising to the role of full-time managing editor in 2022. He breaks national news, provides unique insight and analysis of league-wide issues on a variety of programs, leads chapter coverage of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, produces and edits the 3DownNation Podcast, and serves as the publication’s graphic designer.

Based in Vancouver, B.C., Abbott is a respected columnist and reporter who has been a full-time managing editor with 3DownNation since 2022. He provides chapter coverage of the B.C. Lions, manages 3DownNation’s coverage of the CFL and Global Drafts, is a sought-after guest on shows across the country, and burgeoning news-breaker. He is also a high school head football coach and scout for the All22 Global Scouting Network.

Harvard Media’s acquisition of 3DownNation represents a key step in expanding the company’s reach beyond Western Canada to a truly national audience. This partnership builds on Harvard Media’s commitment to connecting Canadians through trusted, independent journalism and meaningful digital communities.

“3DownNation is a respected and passionate voice for Canadian football fans, built on credibility, community, and connection — values that align perfectly with who we are at Harvard Media,” said Matt Hill, president of Harvard Media.

“It is because of these qualities and management that it is no surprise that 3DownNation was the fastest growing and is the highest trafficked web destination for football in Canada. The addition of 3Down and its synergies with SportsCage and our other online brands, furthers our commitment to sports in Canada and specifically the CFL.”

Dunk brings more than a decade of broadcast and reporting experience to the Harvard Media family. Since 2010, he has covered the Canadian football landscape extensively, serving as a broadcaster for the Vanier Cup since 2013 on Sportsnet and CBC, providing analysis for the 2018 CFL Draft on TSN while reporting from seven Grey Cups and counting — with his insight featured on major national outlets and across every province.
