These spots are all about beautiful beaches and endless sunshine. Still, the government is currently warning anyone heading abroad that extra caution is advised when in these countries.

Canada Travel Advisories

Travel advisories are set in four different categories by the government of Canada. While at the lower end, travellers are told to use standard safety practices– or exercise higher degrees of caution– the more serious travel advisories inform Canadians to either avoid non-essential travel or avoid it altogether.

5 Popular Beach Vacation Spots With A Travel Advisory

Belize – Exercise a high degree of caution (with regional advisories)
Costa Rica – Exercise a high degree of caution
Mexico – Exercise a high degree of caution (with regional advisories)
Jamaica – Exercise a high degree of caution (with regional advisories)
Brazil – Exercise a high degree of caution (with regional advisories)

The majority of these locations– with the exception of Costa Rica– have further warnings, informing Canadian visitors to avoid travel in certain areas. For places like Mexico, Brazil, and Belize, this is due to criminal activity. This includes murder, drugs and arms smuggling, and shootings. High levels of gang-related activity are also prevalent in specific areas. Travellers are therefore warned to avoid any non-essential travel in the travel advisory’s list.

Jamaica is currently still feeling the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa. As such, avoiding non-essential travel to the western parishes is advised.

Other issues such as petty crime, assaults, and fraud are also prevalent in these countries. The government of Canada warns travellers heading to these destinations to exercise extra caution, and to always be aware of their surroundings.
