The Saskatchewan Roughriders are fresh off a Grey Cup victory but are still busy making moves in the early offseason. Their latest transaction on Thursday saw them officially signing receiver Daniel Wiebe, the team’s 69th overall in the 2025 CFL Draft, a West Central area native who moved to Saskatchewan ahead of an accomplished career with the University of Saskatchewan Huskies.

Wiebe exploded for a career year this past season, taking home Canada West Player of the Year and also a finalist nomination for the Hec Creighton Trophy. Wiebe had 78 receptions for 1,257 yards and 13 touchdowns as the Huskies went 7-1 during the regular season and won two playoff games before a loss in the Vanier Cup. His Huskie’s career ended with 217 receptions, 3,065 yards and 27 touchdowns.

Spending his early high school year’s in Rosetown, Wiebe’s football journey started under the tutelage of Rosetown Royals coach Mitch Wintonyk and company, before a move to Saskatoon put him into the 12-aside game at Holy Cross, eventually earning him a spot on the Huskies using his experience across all levels to craft his game.

Wiebe wasn’t the only Huskies player signed this week. The Roughriders also added linebacker Seth Hundeby, coming off a season where he was named the Most Outstanding Defensive Player in the country being awarded the Presidents’ Trophy.

The two National signings join a few other moves from the Riders front office since the Grey Cup. Back on Tuesday they signed National defensive lineman Liam Hoskins, and American offensive lineman Darius Washington, while last Friday the team re-signed National players defensive back Gideon Agyei and receiver D’Sean Mimbs, and American defensive end Chico Bennett Jr.
