Transit officials remind people who plan to travel this weekend between Toronto Pearson Airport in Mississauga and Union Station in downtown Toronto that the express trains won’t be running as they normally would be.

In place of the Union Pearson Express trains, GO Transit buses are being called into action all day Saturday and Sunday to take passengers directly between downtown Toronto and Canada’s biggest and busiest airport.

The trains are being taken off the tracks due to ongoing construction, transit officials said late this week in a reminder to those who use the Pearson-to-Union Station service.

The replacement buses will not make any stops at Bloor, Weston or the new Mount Dennis train stations over the weekend and they may depart at different times than the trains usually do, GO said.

Regular UP Express train service resumes on Monday, officials added.

The two-day train stoppage means some trips could take up to twice as long, as the usual UP Express service delivers passengers between Union and Pearson in 25 minutes or so.

Transit officials said the service adjustments this weekend are due to planned construction “as we prepare for the new St. Clair-Old Weston station, which will provide access to local destinations such as Weston and Woodbine to shorten commutes and increase quality of life for locals and visitors alike.”

When not impacted by construction, the UP Express runs trains every 15 minutes daily until 1 a.m. between downtown Toronto and Pearson.

Officials at Metrolinx, the provincial agency that oversees the UP Express and GO Transit, said earlier the express train service “has become an integral part of transit in Toronto, having served more than 26 million passengers” since its inception in 2015.

In what at the time was the “first dedicated express air-rail link service in North America,” the UP Express took its first passengers between Pearson and Union Station in downtown Toronto on June 6, 2015, Ontario transit officials said earlier.
