Metallica confirmed their status as the reigning kings of thrash metal in 2025 with tonight’s (December 04th) reveal of their Spotify wrapped stats. The Californian Rock & Roll Hall Of Famers absolutely dominated when it came to playtime for metal artists on the service, racking up 2.2 billion streams of their catalog on Spotify this year.
Those streams came from 93.9 million listeners from 184 countries and equated to 185 million hours of playtime. As the band have pointed out, that amounts to over 21,000 years worth of Metallica music having been played this year. That staggering amount becomes even more mind-blowing when you factor it only accounts for the Metallica playtime on one of the numerous digital service provider options out there.
If you’re curious, the band’s most popular tracks on that service include “Enter Sandman“, “Nothing Else Matters” and Master Of Puppets“, all of which have individually amassed over a billion plays each. “Enter Sandman” is even closing in on 2 billion plays, sitting at 1,915,280138 plays as of press time. “One” and “For Whom The Bell Tolls” round out the band’s top 5 most streamed tracks on Spotify.
You guys continue to outdo yourselves every year! Over 21 THOUSAND YEARS worth of our music was streamed on @Spotify in 2025.Sincere thanks to the #MetallicaFamily, who listened all year, joined us on the #M72 World Tour, & supported us from every corner of the globe.
