The Cleveland Browns hosted four CFL players for a workout on Friday, including defensive tackle Jaylon Hutchings, kick returners Trey Vaval and Isaiah Wooden Sr., and punter Nik Constantinou.
Hutchings recorded 39 defensive tackles, eight sacks, and one forced fumble over 17 regular-season CFL games in 2025, his first season as a starter with the Calgary Stampeders. The six-foot, 304-pound pass rusher was named All-CFL and was the top-graded defensive player in the league, according to Pro Football Focus (PFF).
The 25-year-old signed with the Stampeders late during the 2024 season, suiting up for two regular-season games and making two defensive tackles. Hutchings had a brief stint with the Chicago Bears earlier that year but was released near the end of the team’s training camp.
The native of Forney, Tex., was a collegiate standout at Texas Tech University, where he recorded 193 total tackles, 26 tackles for loss, 11 sacks, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and one pass knockdown over 61 games. He underwent knee surgery late in his final season with the Red Raiders, which hurt his stock in the 2024 NFL Draft.
This was Hutchings’ second NFL workout of the offseason. He previously visited the Minnesota Vikings.
Vaval was recently named the CFL’s Most Outstanding Rookie and Most Outstanding Special Teams Player. He led the league in punt return yards (957), missed field goal return yards (391), and total return touchdowns (four) in 2025, while also finishing third in all-purpose yards (2,266) and fifth in kickoff return yards (918).
He also started four games at cornerback for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, recording 21 defensive tackles, four special teams tackles, and one interception.
The 25-year-old finished his collegiate career at Minnesota State University, where he recorded 69 total tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, 14 pass knockdowns, five blocked kicks, two interceptions, two touchdowns, and one sack over 25 games. The five-foot-eleven, 171-pound speedster from Blue Springs, Mo., attended training camp with the Atlanta Falcons in 2024, before making his way to Canada.
Vaval has now worked for three NFL teams, including the New Orleans Saints and New York Jets.
Wooden played 14 regular-season games with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 2025, leading the CFL in punt return average (15.0) and finishing second in kickoff return average (26.3). He recorded 1,782 total return yards and three return touchdowns despite suffering an arm injury midway through the season.
The 25-year-old product of Southern Utah first signed with the B.C. Lions in 2024 and spent time on the team’s practice roster, though he was later released and signed in Hamilton. He reportedly ran a 4.38-second forty-yard dash at his pro day last year.
The five-foot-nine, 170-pound returner also previously worked out for the New Orleans Saints and New York Jets.
Constaninou punted 90 times for the Tiger-Cats in 2025, averaging 48.3 gross yards and 38.0 net yards while landing 11 kicks inside the 10-yard line and scoring five singles.
The 26-year-old native of Melbourne, Australia, was a first-round pick in the 2024 CFL Global Draft out of Texas A&M University. He punted 102 times for Hamilton as a rookie, averaging 47.1 gross yards and 36.8 yards net.
This was Constantinou’s first workout of the offseason. He tried out for six teams last offseason, including the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, New York Giants, Minnesota Vikings, Denver Broncos, Baltimore Ravens, and Buffalo Bills, but did not land a contract.
The NFL workout window opened on Monday, November 17. The window to sign with an NFL team opens January 5, 2026, and ends February 10, 2026, at 12:01 p.m. EST.
NFL teams must ask CFL franchises for permission to work out players, and the request cannot be denied. CFL players can opt out of their agreements north of the border if an NFL team offers a contract, though their CFL team maintains their rights through the duration of the voided contract.
Hutchings and Wooden are pending free agents, while Vaval and Constantinou each have a year remaining on their CFL rookie contracts.
The Cleveland Browns (3-9) rank last in the AFC North standings. They host the Tennessee Titans (1-7) on Sunday, December 7, at 1:00 p.m. EST.
