Peacefully at the F.J. Davey Home on Thursday, Dec. 4, 2025, at the age of 93.
Beloved husband for 67 years to the late Dorothy. Loving father of Dan (Susan), Jay (Colleen), Wade (Robyn) and the late Carol (Mike) Richards. Proud grandfather of Joshua (Jenna), Devon (Ashley), Cailin, Cal, Jan (Jayme-Lynn), Ashley and Justin. Great-grandfather of Melody, Zoey, Hailey, Carter, Nash, Cody, Remi and Tryxie. Adored uncle to many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, Charles and Ethel Richards; his mother- and father-in-law, Jessie and Frank Irwin; and his siblings, Russ (Effie) Richards, Doreen (Les) Patterson, Thelma “Toni” (Basil) Wilson, Myrtle (Jim) Ball, Joe (Joyce, Elsie) Richards, Audrey (John) Bouliane, Phyllis Wright and Gladys (Ken) Budge.
After a long career at Algoma Steel, he and Dorothy retired to the cottage at Batchawana Bay. He was frequently heard saying, “There are many beautiful places in the world, but nothing compares to Batchawana.”
An avid outdoorsman, Ron loved camp both on the water and at the beach. He also loved hiking and skiing the trails with his dogs. He was actively involved in the YMCA and tai chi communities and his Masonic lodge (Hatherly). Ron and Dorothy felt family was very important and hosted annual family parties at home and camp. They were also an active part of the Batchewana beach community.
The family thanks the caring staff of the F.J. Davey Home, Driftwood Beach 2.
According to Ron’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. The family will announce a summer celebration of life at a later date. Memorial contributions (payable online or by cheque) to the Alzheimer Society of Sault Ste. Marie & Algoma District, the Sault Ste. Marie Humane Society or the local YMCA would be greatly appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to the Arthur Funeral Home – Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington St. E., 705-759-2522). Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.arthurfuneralhome.com for the Richards family.
