Last week, the Rotary Club of Sault Ste. Marie visited the Sault Area Hospital to see its new paediatric echocardiography equipment, funded in part by the club’s $40,930 donation, using proceeds from its Take Your Pick Draw.
Paediatric echocardiography is an urgent and growing need in the Algoma District. With services shifting to the Sault Area Hospital, two technologists have been trained to deliver highly specialized imaging in-house. The new service is already ensuring that children and families can receive exceptional care close to home, rather than travelling to off-site facilities like SickKids.
“Thanks to the Rotary Club of Sault Ste. Marie, we can bring this level of specialized paediatric imaging to Sault Area Hospital. For NICU patients, the mobile unit means scans can be done without leaving their room, providing comfort and continuity of care when it matters most,” said Teresa Martone, executive director of Sault Area Hospital Foundation.
“With advanced imaging and a smaller probe built for tiny patients, this equipment can detect urgent, life-threatening conditions early, and often eliminate or reduce the need to travel out of town. Care teams are already identifying critical conditions sooner and keeping babies and children close to their families.”
Rotary’s donation was made possible thanks to the success of the club’s Take Your Pick draws. Tickets for this year’s Rotary Take Your Pick Draw are on sale now.
Tickets are $20 and available at most lottery outlets, convenience stores and online at rotaryssm5050.ca until 9 p.m. on Dec. 22, when sales will close in preparation for the grand prize draw on Dec. 27.
“What a fantastic way to kick off the 2025 draw,” said Pino Caputo, Take Your Pick co-chair.
“Our club has always focused on supporting children in Sault Ste. Marie, and we’re proud that this donation will help ensure they receive the care they need right here at home. This wouldn’t be possible without the generosity of our community and everyone who purchased a ticket. Thank you for helping us give back,” Caputo said.
The Rotary Club of Sault Ste. Marie extends its sincere gratitude for the community’s continuous support of its two annual Take Your Pick draws, which make meaningful contributions like this possible.
