On this episode of Bringing the Heat, host Trey Lyle is joined by Bryan Nolen to break down day seven of the NASCAR vs. 23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports antitrust trial.

Lyle and Nolen begin by recapping the final portion of the cross-examination of the plaintiff’s expert witness Dr. Edward Snyder, an economist and former dean at Yale University, the University of Chicago and the University of Virginia. The discussion centered on Snyder’s comparison of Formula 1 and NASCAR financial models.

The conversation then shifted to the day’s marquee testimony from NASCAR Commissioner Steve Phelps. Lyle and Nolen discussed Phelps’ expanding responsibilities within the sport, his compensation and his involvement in the Next Gen car rollout and charter negotiations.

Next, Richard Childress took the stand and detailed events surrounding Sept. 6, a date he testified made him feel obligated to sign the charter agreement. Lyle and Nolen compared Childress’ testimony with earlier testimony from Heather Gibbs, noting similarities in how both described the days’ events.

The final witness of the day was NASCAR Chairman and CEO Jim France. Lyle and Nolen examined how France’s inability to recall certain key events could reflect poorly on NASCAR’s position in the case.
