Canadian tennis had its moments in 2025, with players achieving some notable successes across the ATP and WTA Tours. Experienced players such as Félix Auger-Aliassime and Denis Shapovalov had their moments in the spotlight. In contrast, newcomers like Victoria Mboko and Gabriel Diallo showed that the future of Canadian tennis was in the right hands.
Félix Auger-Aliassime’s Resurgent Season
After two indifferent seasons in 2023 and 2024, Félix Auger-Aliassime rose to the occasion in 2025, reaching five finals on the Tour. He won three titles in Adelaide, Montpellier, and Brussels. Along with the titles, he also had an excellent semifinal run at the US Open, where he held his own for quite a bit before a close four-set loss to Jannik Sinner.
He capped off his campaign with a semifinal run at the ATP Finals, and surged to a career-high of world No. 5. Besides his exploits on the court, the Canadian also got married this year, tying the knot with his partner, Nina Ghaibi.
Denis Shapovalov Had a Strong Showing in 2025
Like his countryman, Denis Shapovalov also had a great showing on court, as the Canadian won multiple titles in a single season for the first time in his career. Shapovalov won the titles in Dallas and Los Cabos, and had impressive semifinal finishes in Acapulco and Stockholm. He too tied the knot this year, marrying his long-time girlfriend, Mirjam Björklund.
Leylah Fernandez Wins Her Biggest Title in 2025
Even though Leylah Fernandez reached the US Open final in 2021, the Canadian’s title success has been limited to the WTA 250 level so far. Having won only one title in the last two years, Fernandez had an impressive 2025 season, winning titles in Washington and Osaka. The title in Washington is significant for the Canadian, as it is a WTA 500 title, her biggest career achievement on court so far.
Victoria Mboko Announces Herself On the WTA Tour
Having won five titles on the ITF circuit this year, Victoria Mboko showed that she was ready for the big Tour. However, she went beyond everybody’s expectations when she won against four former Grand Slam champions, Sofia Kenin, Coco Gauff, Elena Rybakina, and Naomi Osaka to win the WTA 1000 title in Montreal. She also ended the year on a high, winning a second Tour-level title in Hong Kong.
Gabriel Diallo Shows His Potential
The big-serving Gabriel Diallo had his bright moments in 2025 on the Tour, as he reached a career high ranking of 33, and finished the year at a promising No. 41. The Canadian won his maiden Tour-level title, winning the Libema Open with a win over Zizou Bergs in the final. Even at Wimbledon, he stretched the likes of Taylor Fritz to five sets, showing he was comfortable in dealing with the pressures of the big stage.
Eugenie Bouchard And Vasek Pospisil Call It a Day
Two of Canada’s most prominent stars, Eugenie Bouchard and Vasek Pospisil, hung up their racquets in 2025. Bouchard had already made a foray into professional pickleball and decided to end her tennis career at her home event in Canada. Her most significant career achievement remains reaching the 2014 Wimbledon final. Her only singles title came at the 2014 Nuremberg Cup. She was also part of the Canadian team that won the Billie Jean King Cup back in 2023.

Pospisil was already involved in a role at the Professional Tennis Players Association (PTPA) and had been playing a limited schedule on the Tour in recent years. Like Bouchard, he ended his career at the Canadian Open this year. Pospisil could not win a singles title in his career, but was an accomplished doubles player, having won the 2014 Wimbledon doubles title alongside Jack Sock.
